'Yes', SA Rugby want Oberholzer as CEO

Western Province Rugby administrator Rian Oberholzer has confirmed reports that he has been approached by SA Rugby to succeed Jurie Roux as interim CEO.

Oberholzer also said his possible return to the sports governing body in the Republic would not affect the WP administration process that began in October 2021.on 19 February, Oberholzer and SARU president Mark Alexander had come to an agreement on his position, but were awaiting the approval of its executive committee.

Oberholzer is a seasoned administrator having served as Sanzaar’s CEO at the launch of Super Rugby, before taking over the position of SA Rugby Football Union managing director between 1996 and 2003., Oberholzer was asked if reports of an SA Rugby approach were true,, and he said: “That is so, yes. “I’ve been made an offer by SA Rugby to be the interim CEO. But that will not stop the WP administration.

“SA Rugby will just appoint another administrator to take care of the administrative process. The administration has got nothing to do with the individual but everything to do with the process.
