US lawmakers have asked Mark Zuckerberg to explain why adverts for drugs are so prevalent on his websites.
These reports have prompted members of congress in the US to ask Mark Zuckerberg some tough questions.
Last month, the Tech Transparency Project highlighted how prevalent ads for drugs were on Meta platforms. The adverts were discovered by trawling through Meta’s ad library and searching for posts selling drugs. In total, TTP found 452 drug ads on Facebook, Instagram, and Messenger with Instagram having the most ads.
The members of congress are asking Zuckerberg some tough questions including what processes are in place to review drug-related advertisements, how it intends to put an end to this practice, and what sort of reach these ads had.
