The Yankees have reeled in the top remaining starter on the free-agent market in a major boost to their rotation.

The deal also includes a no-trade clause.between Rodon and the Yankees after the team made its initial offer, but the two sides worked out a compromise. Rodon was the Yankees top priority after bringing back Judge. The Giants, Cardinals and Twins were other teams linked to Rodon in free agency.
In the 30-year-old Rodon, the Yankees get a true front-end starter to join Gerrit Cole, whom the Yanks signed to a nine-year, $324 million deal after the 2019 season. Nestor Cortes. Inconsistency and injuries plagued the beginning of Rodon’s career after he was the No. 3 overall pick by the White Sox in the 2014 MLB Draft. He had a 4.14 ERA in 97 games in his first five seasons. Rodon made just 11 appearances across the 2019 and ’20 seasons due to Tommy John surgery, and he was non-tendered by Chicago after the 2020 campaign.
He returned to the White Sox in 2021 on a one-year, $3 million contract as a different pitcher. He went 13-5 with a 2.37 ERA, 0.96 WHIP and 185 strikeouts in 132 ⅔ innings, earning his first All-Star nod and finishing fifth in the AL Cy Young voting.Ashley Rodon/Instagram Rodon then joined the Giants as a free agent in March on a two-year, $44 million contract with an opt-out after the first year.
