Dealing with the same shoulder inflammation as last season, this time, Montas may have to go through surgery.
TAMPA – On the day pitchers and catchers reported to George M. Steinbrenner Field, the Yankees revealed that one of them is potentially facing surgery.
Right-hander Frankie Montas, acquired at last year’s trade deadline, is still not throwing because of shoulder inflammation and surgery is “on the table,” pitching coach Matt Blake said Wednesday.because of his shoulder issue – which he battled last season, too – but now the Yankees are determining if his absence will be longer than that.If Montas does end up needing surgery, it would “not necessarily” be season-ending, according to Blake.
Frankie Montas works on the mound during the seventh inning in Game 1 of baseball’s American League Championship Series against the Houston Astros.“I think that’s where we’re letting him go through the process with the doctors right now and continuing to assess where we’re at,” Blake said.
