The Yankees changed up their roster before Saturday night's game in San Francisco
Down a starter due to Clarke Schmidt's lat strain, the Yankees called up right-hander Cody Poteet from Triple-A to start Saturday night's game in San Francisco.right-hander Cody Poteet probably would be the choice for a call-up from Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, and the Yankees made it official Saturday.
The Yankees haven’t revealed any plans for Cole yet, but if he makes four rehab starts, his season debut might be June 25 in a Subway Series game against the Mets at Citi Field.Boone is hopeful that Poteet will jump in and contribute like he did in April when he was called up to make a spot start in Cleveland. That day, he allowed one run over six innings in Game 2 of a doubleheader, an 8-2 Yankees victory.
“He can pitch,” Boone said. “Really good changeup. Obviously a really strong outing for us against Cleveland when he did come up. We were excited to get him this winter. He’s another guy coming off an injury. He missed most of last year and a little bit the year before, so he’s a guy that you know we value and felt could help us.
The Yankees optioned reliever Cody Morris to open a roster spot for Poteet. The righty was called up from Triple-A on Thursday when Schmidt went on the 15-day injured list, but didn’t get into a game during his two-day stay with the Yankees.
