USPCA: 'Adding these dogs to a failed law that has been in place for 30 years cannot not work because it is the owners who train and goad dogs into aggression that must be dealt with'

Northern Ireland could become the dumping ground for XL Bullies as Rishi Sunak announces a ban on the dogs in 100 days.

“What Rishi Sunak is doing today is wrong, with little thought for the consequences and the inevitable failure of this move. He is grabbing for the popular vote, the quick headline. But with Northern Ireland not included in the Prime Minister’s plan, Ms Smith is also concerned Northern Ireland could potentially become a dumping ground for XL Bullies.

Mr Sunak said on September 15 that American XL Bullies are a "danger to communities" and will banned. He was speaking on the day a man in the West Midlands died form injuries sustained in a dog attack. “It is clear this is not about a handful of badly trained dogs, it’s a pattern of behaviour and it cannot go on.

“These dogs are dangerous, I want to reassure the public that we will take all necessary steps to keep people safe.”Alliance Animal Welfare spokesperson, Patrick Brown, said: "Adding one type of dog to a law that has not worked since its inception isn't going to help anyone and it will not stop the people who direct their attention to dogs with the full intention of building aggression in them and creating poor temperaments through poor breeding.
