XFL president Russ Brandon called San Antonio a 'core market' with a long-term future in the league, impressed by the city's embrace of the Brahmas.

As the first season of the rebooted XFL closes this weekend, San Antonio has rewarded the league’s decision to bring the 2023 championship game to the Alamodome, with the D.C. Defenders and the Arlington Renegades meeting at 7 p.m. Saturday. The XFL has touted stability from its formation, and co-owners Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Dany Garcia confirmed in a late March interview with USA Today that the league is planning a return for 2024.
The hub model in Arlington is slated to return for 2024, Brandon said, but many other elements of the XFL’s future will not be decided until the coming weeks. The league set a preseason goal of providing a pathway to the NFL, and through Wednesday the XFL had announced 52 players from 2023 rosters who were invited to NFL tryouts, including seven Brahmas.
