XMen screenwriter and director Simon Kinberg doesn't know Marvel's future plans for the X-Men, but he's extremely confident in Kevin Feige. '[He] knows what he is doing with the MCU. I would argue he's the greatest producer in the history of cinema.'
X-Men producer Simon Kinberg has high praise for Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige. Kinberg had a long history working on Marvel adaptations over at 20th Century Fox, namely the X-Men film franchise. He wrote the screenplay for X-Men: The Last Stand, X-Men: Days of Future Past, and X-Men: Apocalypse, as well as serving as a producer on those films in addition to X-Men: First Class, Logan, and the two Ryan Reynolds-led Deadpool films.
Kinberg made his directorial debut with X-Men: Dark Phoenix which, due to the purchase of 20th Century Fox by Disney, became the last of the mainline X-Men film series to hit theaters and marked the end of the almost 20-year franchise. Like the Fantastic Four, the X-Men are now expected to arrive in the MCU, but no official X-Men project has officially been announced other than a revival of X-Men: The Animated Series for Disney+.
"The honest answer is, I have no idea. And the other answer is, Kevin [Feige] knows what he is doing with the MCU. I would argue he's the greatest producer in the history of cinema. Truly. I mean, if you look at it pound for pound in terms of quality and in terms of obviously commercial success, there's no question the latter is true. So I don't know."
Feige has certainly made a name for himself as one of the all-star producers in Hollywood, having been nominated for an Academy Award for Black Panther. In 2019, Feige was awarded the David O. Selznick Achievement Award in Theatrical Motion Pictures by the Producers Guild of America.
With the introduction of the multiverse in projects like Loki and Spider-Man: No Way Home, there is a strong chance that the X-Men characters from the previous film series could appear in the MCU. Marvel has confirmed that Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is still undergoing reshoots, and many wonder if this is possibly to include more multiversal characters, like an appearance from Hugh Jackman's Wolverine or Reynolds' Deadpool.
