The firefighters were killed when tackling a 'dangerous and destructive' fire 101 years ago today.
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service shared pictures today of firefighters leaving a tribute to the two men who were killed when tackling a"dangerous and destructive" fire on Miller Street.
Fireman Frederick True and Fireman James Farquharson were killed when the property, which was located on the East corner of Miller Street and Argyle Street, collapsed on Saturday, July 2, 1921.from Monday, July 4, 1921, states that the fire was first spotted in Bowman's Economic Store, which was on the street level section of the building, shortly before 7pm.
A plaque at the site reads:"As a result of a disastrous and destructive fire during which the collapse of the property of Bowmans Store occurred, Fireman Frederick True [and] Fireman James Farquharson of the Glasgow Fire Brigade were killed whilst firefighting." Three other firemen were also injured when the building collapsed and £200,000 worth of damage was caused by the fire.
