Indeed, it’s not the opening of a year ago for the Flames’ AHL affiliate, when the Stockton Heat fired out to a 10-0-3 start and didn’t lose in regulation until the 14th game of their schedule.“We had everybody on the same page every night,” Phillips said. “We obviously had some players that played different roles, but everybody bought into how we wanted to play and everybody played with the same detail. That made us interchangeable as forwards and defensive pairs.
Seven forwards return from last year’s Heat — those being Phillips, Alex Gallant, Martin Pospisil, Walker Duehr, Emilio Pettersen, Connor Zary and Jakob Pelletier. Four defenceman — in Colton Poolman, Ilya Solovyov, Nick DeSimone and Yan Kuznetsov — are back from last year’s squad, as well. And after his stellar season with the club a year ago, goaltender Dustin Wolf anchors the Wranglers in the goal-crease.
What they’ve done right is looked good on the power play, with a Pacific Division-best 26.3% effectiveness heading into Thursday night’s AHL action.Article content
