World leaders under pressure at COP26 to put their previous commitments and pledges into action

These commitments were part of the 2015 Paris Agreement, in which developed countries also pledged $100 billion annually to go towards helping developing countries fight the climate crisis. Wathuti said she had started a tree-planting initiative to enhance food security for young Kenyans, with about 30 000 trees already planted. She said:The decision you make here will determine whether the rains will return to our land, whether the fruit trees we plant will live or perish; and the decision you make here will determine whether the children will have food and water. The children can’t live on empty promises – they are waiting for you to act,” she said.
Johnson went on to outline a highly ambitious plan of, among others actions, phasing out cars with hydrocarbon internal combustion engines by 2030 and ending the use of coal-fired power stations by 2040 in the developing world and by 2030 in richer nations.
