More than 3,000 World Games athletes have arrived in Birmingham and here’s what they have to say about Alabama.

More than 3,000 World Games athletes have arrived in Birmingham and here’s what they have to say about Alabama:“It’s very hot,” said Lukas Schubert, also from Germany.

Schubert and Danneker compete in Fistball, a version of volleyball played on grass courts. They are staying and competing on campus at Birmingham-Southern. They begin competition on Sunday and take part in four days of games, through Wednesday. There are separate men’s and women’s teams from various countries that qualified. The Germans hope to win gold medals.Both have played the game since they were children and have trained for this moment ever since.

“I know it’s a little warm,” said Jonathan Porter, chairman of the Birmingham World Games organizing committee. “It’s Alabama. We’re going to deal with it.”
