Workweek outlook: August ends on a slightly chilly note

A bit of rain possible this week

As August ends and a brief cool stretch arrives, this past month will be entered into the record books as slightly cooler than normal. Daytime highs seemed pleasant for most of the month, but we end up with 10 nights where the temperature fell below 10°C. The number of days with rain was slightly lower than normal, but the infrequent heavy downpours brought precipitation values very close to the 30-year average for August.

A chilly start to Monday will give way to sunshine that will help temperatures rise to 24°C. Clouds start to move during the afternoon, with rain expected after midnight. Tuesday will bring rain and a few storms, but skies should start to clear later in the day as daytime highs fall to 19°C. A strong north wind arrives in the late afternoon. The cool northerly wind remains in place for Wednesday and will help keep temperatures in the upper teens despite sunshine all day.

The sunshine continues into Thursday as daytime highs jump back up to 24°C. A few clouds move in on Friday, but we will still see enough sun to keep temperatures in the mid-20s.
