At first, Klaudia Brady didn't look very closely at a fellow traveler on a recent flight out of Birmingham. Then she realized she was flying with actor Kurt Russell, who had been working on a film in Alabama. Bad news for those hoping for another Kurt Russell sighting, amid work on a new Matthew McConaughey movie in Alabama: His last fan encounter in conjunction with the project took place on his flight out late last week.
Brady said her trip was part of a summer routine. For several years now, her 16-year-old son, Jet McClay, has participated in an Extreme Military Challenge Summer Camp at Camp Liberty, a site near Cullman. He flies alone to the camp, but she accompanies him on the return. “I fly down every year when it’s time for his graduation and bring him back home,” she said.
“He had New Balance tennis shoes on, Kurt Russell did,” she said. “And he had like an old little beat-up suitcase. I just kind of looked down at the shoes, not paying attention to anything. It was a raggedy little suitcase, but I didn’t say anything, I didn’t know it was him. He had a hat on, and glasses, I just didn’t look at anybody.”
