CHICAGO -- As the CTA prepares to extend the Red Line south to 130th Street, people who live on the Far South Side are weighing in on whether the project is good for them.Advance work is expected to begin on the Red Line Extension this summer. The CTA plans to extend the Red Line by 5.
CTA has acquired properties located in the future track alignment. Demolition is expected to begin in late summer or fall.At a community meeting Tuesday night, some neighbors were skeptical about whether the extension will truly help the community.One man, who asked to remain anonymous, said he believes few South Side residents and businesses will end up benefiting from the project, and that it will be companies from outside Chicago that get most of the contracts.
