A woman walking on a Cape May street Sunday afternoon was struck and killed by an erratic driver who careened along a major thoroughfare in the city, authorities said. The 63-year-old woman died of her injuries at the scene, Cape May police said in a statement. Her identity was not immediately available.
Police said they were alerted by Cape May County dispatch at about 4:15 p.m. that an erratic driver was on the Route 109 Bridge heading south into the city. Officers responded to the area and saw the vehicle southbound on the road, which is Lafayette Street in town. The vehicle struck the woman and then hit vehicle, a utility pole and second vehicle before becoming disabled, police said.showed a downed utility pole on Lafayette Street at Decatur Street, near Bank Street.
