The crash was reported around 2:35 a.m. on south Interstate 5 near Mile of Cars Way in National City, a California Highway Patrol officer said
A woman was killed early Thursday morning in a chain-reaction crash that involved four vehicles on Interstate 5 in National City, a California Highway Patrol officer said. The collision occurred south of Mile of Cars Way about 2:35 a.m. when three vehicles — a Nissan Frontier, a Honda Accord and Jeep Liberty — heading south crashed into one another, said Officer Salvador Castro. After the initial crash, the disabled Honda stopped in lanes of traffic, Castro said.
The Honda was then struck by a Jeep Patriot being driven by a 37-year-old man from Imperial Beach. The woman driving the sedan was ejected onto the roadway. She was taken to a hospital where she died, investigators said. Her name has not been released, pending notification of her family. The driver of the Jeep suffered moderate injuries and was also taken to a hospital. It was not immediately clear if the driver who ran away was arrested by officers.
