Neither of the drivers were injured, although one was taken to hospital as a precautionary measure after that person’s vehicle struck a tree. “These are unfortunate circumstances that I don’t believe the pedestrians could have necessarily done anything to avoid this happening — it’s very scary,” said Patten. “But if I can give any recommendations to anyone, if you are a pedestrian, and you are waiting to cross the street — or you’re standing waiting for a bus — try to stay as far away back as you can because these freak accidents can happen.
The relationship between the female pedestrian and the child, who police believe were waiting to cross the road, was not revealed.
