After causing numerous delays in the case against her, Galinda Nelson - accused of chaining a child to a bed and using a horsewhip to beat another - is finally on trial. The case against Nelson - who at the time of her arrest early in 2019 had 12 children aged two to 16 in her care - faced numerous delays. This includes her locking herself in a court bathroom and refusing to come out, and resisting a court-ordered psychiatric evaluation.
National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Eric Ntabazalila said the officer had a previous report of the conditions the children were kept in, while the incident had also been reported to the Department of Social Development."He also stated that a concern was that the children, who were of school-going age, had not been attending school despite the fact that there is a small farm school close by.
