The latest sees Netflix pledge grant funding to Wits University to provide “state of the art equipment” to students of the Film and TV Department of the Wits School of Arts, the university said in anWits, through the School of Arts, is training the next generation of film and TV producers, entertainers and content creators to serve the African continent and bolster South Africa’s burgeoning film industry.
“Through the fund, Netflix will support external organizations committed to creating a more equitable environment in the TV and film industries, as well as bespoke Netflix programs that help us to identify, train and provide potential job opportunities for up-and-coming talent globally,” it explained in awith the Wits Film and TV department by introducing this initiative aimed at nurturing and strengthening the pipeline of the South African film and TV industry,” says Allison Triegaardt,...
While Netflix’s strategy to produce locally-flavoured content is aimed at growing local subscriber bases, the company also produces some of its biggest series and films in South Africa, using South African crews and casting South African actors – investing millions into the local industry and opening it to international spectators.“Thank you to Netflix for the generous grant,” says Peter Bezuidenhoudt, director of Development and Fundraising at Wits University.
