While spending hours and hours watching game film is a great tool for football evaluators, the live eyeball test can put an exclamation mark on all that research.
“It’s a cliche in football, but film doesn’t lie,” said Redblacks general manager Shawn Burke. “The body of work they have on film has the greatest impact on where they’ll be selected. This is a good time to see the cream rise to the top. You really get to see the alphas of the group. Something I focus on is seeing which guys are jumping to the front of the lines, who’s taking extra reps, who’s not getting tired.
“Football is about competing,” said Dyce. “With how they’ve altered this evaluation camp, we’ll see how they compete in practice, how are they are in meeting rooms.” “This is a people business,” said Dyce. “The opportunity to have those interviews is massive. You get a deeper knowledge of who they are. Maybe you find out some information you wouldn’t already have.”
“The reality is this weekend – getting a bunch of people together and seeing the prospects – it really heats up in the last month,” said Burke. “You saw that with the NFL. They got out of the combine and the pick was traded. I don’t know if it’s ever happened that quickly in our league.”Article content
