Anne-Katrin Spiess' brought her performance art piece to downtown Boston on Wednesday, with the aim of bringing awareness to single-use plastic pollution.

Artist Anne-Katrin Spiess' team lowers JD Cohen into the coffin as they prepare for a performance of "Death by Plastic" in front of South Station. “Our planet Earth is in such a dire situation and we are really, truly killing it,” Spiess said. “And not just the planet. We're actually killing our bodies with single-use plastics…we now have plastics in our own bodies up to a credit card worth each week. We have plastics in our blood. We have plastics in our lungs.”

It was intense and hot,” he said. “I was listening to what was being said and feeling the impact of not just environmental issues and the issue of plastic, but everything that's going on in our world right now. It feels really good to be participating in something like this with people who are concerned and others who feel a sense of urgency about it.
