Robbie Younker, treasurer of the Charlottetown Curling Club, says the organization has far more money available than he is used to dealing with in non-profit organizations. The board has thus invested it in a GIC that is set to return $43,000 in 2023.STRATFORD, P.E.I. — The Charlottetown Curling Club is planning a new facility in Stratford, but funding and a timeline remain up in the air.
“We immediately worked towards paying off some of our existing creditors — so, mortgage, property tax, any other lingering bills that were hanging around.” Stratford is actually planning a general sports and recreation complex, which the new curling club may be part of. It’s more appealing to the town to be the landlord, and the board wants the club to be tenants, Younker added.
“The funding we are looking at would be 40 per cent federal dollars, 33 per cent provincial dollars and the remaining 27 to be spent would be divided between the municipality and the non-profit,” she said. It also offered something for the club to discuss and critique at the AGM — which board members did with enthusiasm.
Despite this progress, Murray and the board members noted a few times all of this is early, preliminary and unofficial.
