Wiring Harness Issue Could Cause The 2022 Subaru Outback's Engine To Cut Out | Carscoops carscoops
are subject to a recall in the United States as a result of a wiring issue.
Subaru has revealed that a male terminal on an engine test harness could become deformed and damage a female terminal on the engine wiring harness. This could result in poor contact with the male terminal of the Engine Control Unit .If the terminal loses connection while driving, the vehicle could experience a loss of power and may be impossible to restart, obviously increasing the risk of a crash.
Subaru first became aware of a potential problem on May 6 when they noticed an internal vehicle failure and the inability to start the engine of a car. An investigation soon revealed an open terminal on the engine harness connector and on May 9, the team encountered a second vehicle failure, this time identifying a bent pin on an engine test harness. The automaker notes that it is not aware of any warranty claims, field reports, crashes, or injuries resulting from the issue.
Subaru began to notify dealers of the recall on July 6 and will inform owners by or around August 30. Owners will be instructed to bring their vehicle to a dealer where the engine wiring harness and ECU will be replaced with new parts at no cost.
