Staff Reports After losing their second tournament match, the Wiregrass Kings volleyball team battled back Saturday to reach the championship match of the Alabama Christian Sports Conference in Trussville before losing to Evangel Christian.
The Kings went 4-2 over the two-day, double-elimination tournament in finishing as the state runner-up. They opened on Friday with a 25-13, 25-17 win over Southern Christian of Opelika, but then lost to the Tuscaloosa Home Educators 25-22, 19-25, 15-11 to drop to the losers’ bracket. On Saturday morning, the Kings beat Ezekiel Academy of Montgomery 25-8, 20-25, 15-13 and East Central of Trussville 25-18, 25-17 before avenging the loss to the Tuscaloosa Home Educators with a 25-22, 25-22 victory.
The win over the Educators put the Kings into the championship match where they lost 25-14, 25-17 to Evangel Christian of Alabaster.At the tournament, the all-conference players for the season were announced and three Kings were honored – Sexton, Anna Ryan Sharp and Jessie Tedder.Tags Get in the game with our Prep Sports Newsletter Sent weekly directly to your inbox!
