Lots of hacks have been shared on social media as people try to stay warm for less, but some of the tricks can prove dangerous or even life threatening.
With energy prices remaining a concern amid a cost of living crisis, many are looking for more cost-effective ways to keep warm at home without having to crank up their central heating for long periods of time.
For example, using a terracotta pot to heat a room has been doing the rounds on TikTok, with the craze soaring in popularity last winter. The hack involves putting the pot upside down on top of three lit candles to take the chill off a room quickly and cheaply. Social media has also be flooded with various DIY radiator cover ideas, with influencers sharing their versions.
