“He was with me pretty much every day, either going to cancer appointments or he’d come and just drive around with me to go to work, and the last couple of summers, when he was sick, he came to P.E.I. with me and the kids for hockey school. We were just together a lot more … and we became closer than we were our whole life.”

Bob Morton, who worked with Dill at Valley Ford Wholesale Depot for the last three and a half years, was among those people. He first met Dill when he was in his teens watching hockey. Bobby Dill played with the Cape Breton Metros before coming back mid-season to play for the Windsor Alpines, who won the Maritime Junior A Hockey League title in 1971-72. - Contributed

“I looked up to him as one of my idols,” he said, noting it was a thrill to hear the announcer call out Bobby Dill’s name when he scored. Brian Redden, right, presented Bobby Dill, with a trophy for being the high scorer for the Windsor Alpines in 1971-72. - FileBut Dill wasn’t just a hockey player, he also coached. He coached his son and the team at King’s-Edgehill School. He was an assistant coach with the Windsor Royals junior B hockey team for a time, and helped recruit his son to take on the head coaching role after his hockey career wound down.

“He did a phenomenal job. He raised a lot of sponsors for it and got prizes donated,” Ullock added, noting he was so busy organizing it, he often didn't get to hit the green himself. “There was no I or me in Bobby Dill. He was a team player, a great friend to all and would help anyone in need. He gave back to our community 10-fold,” said Andrew Dill.

When Dill wasn’t working or involved with hockey, he enjoyed spending time at his camp. Hunter laughs when he reminisces of their time together, and has no shortage of fun camp stories he can share.
