Microsoft has discovered a compatibility issue between Windows 11's latest update (24H2) and certain Ubisoft games. The update may cause games to become unresponsive or crash, leading to a black screen. Microsoft is actively blocking the update installation if these games are detected on a user's PC.
Gamers running Windows 11 may be inadvertently preventing the latest update from being installed because of certain Ubisoft games on their PC. Microsoft discovered a problem that users might encounter if they have these Ubisoft games installed and install the 24H2 update. Users might experience issues like games becoming unresponsive while starting, loading, or playing, sometimes leading to a black screen.
The latest update for Star Wars Outlaws is said to address this issue, but Ubisoft is working on a more permanent fix. However, installing these games after applying the 24H2 update might cause problems. Therefore, it's recommended that owners of these titles avoid installing them until the problem is resolved. Microsoft will actively block the update from being installed if one of these games is detected on your computer. The company advises against manually updating to version 24H2 using the Windows 11 Installation Assistant or the media creation tool until the issue is resolved. If those games aren't detected and the Windows update goes through, Microsoft has a solution for any crashes you might experience: Open Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc or right-click Start and select Task Manager), locate your game in the Processes tab, click on it to highlight, and then click the End Task button to close the game. Microsoft and Ubisoft are working to solve this issue, but there's no word on when a fix can be expected
