ICYMI: CBC searched high and low for Marxist profs to speak ill of the Queen — via financialpost
You would have to search far and wide to find people who during the mourning period were willing to speak ill of the Queen. But of course the intrepid explorers in the newsroom did manage to dig up an anti-monarchist or two and more than one Marxist professor — the remaining Marxists are nearly all professors — willing to talk about the blood-stained, exploitative and racist British empire. Just for the record, you know.
But at least the major on-screen presenters didn’t dwell on the possibly dead-end future of the monarchy or the dead-as-a-doornail British Empire — on which, it should be emphasized, the Queen spent the first 30 years or so of her reign closing the door, following the example of her father, who in 1947 presided over Britain’s withdrawal from India and what eventually became Bangladesh and Pakistan.
Ms. Arsenault did ask our prime minister in her exclusive interview with him and his wife whether progress had been made with King Charles on an apology to First Nations, a very silly question — you’re really going to bring that up in a short condolence meeting? — that the PM quite rightly danced around. Did anyone else notice how effective the PM was without a teleprompter or talking points to stick to? Almost like a real person.
It’s actually not complicated at all. And if they still taught Canadian history in schools, viewers wouldn’t have to be spoon-fed a correct view of it all. European explorers found a big, not-very-populated continent whose inhabitants had uncompetitive military technology. They gradually moved in and took over. First the French and then, after a battle in 1759 on the Plains of Abraham, the British.
