This follows a decision by the university council this week to further discuss the controversial residence which came under the spotlight earlier this year after disturbing items related to initiation ceremonies and alleged racism were found in its rooms.
CAPE TOWN - Stellenbosch University's Wilgenhof Alumni Association said it was looking forward to engaging the university about the fate of Wilgenhof Residence.
Following an investigation, a three-person tribunal recently compiled a report recommending the residence be shut down. Wilgenhof alumni spokesperson, Jaco Rabie, on Tuesday slammed the tribunal's report, saying it's given the public a skewed perception of the residence. "To claim that it honours the Ku Klux Klan and nazism is absurd. The report established an inaccurate image of Wilgenhof in the public. We therefore welcome the call for further submissions and further deliberation."
The council is inviting those interested to visit the university's website and submit written representations on the fate of Wilgenhof.
