Smoke from a wildfire causes a haze at the Ocean County Airport on Sunday, September 3, 2023.A wildfire in Ocean County discovered not long after an airplane crashed nearby had spread to 600 acres Sunday night, but was 50% contained, the New Jersey Forest Fire Service said.
The blaze is in the area of Robert J. Miller Airpark in Lacey, southeast of Ocean County Airport, which is just over the Berkeley Township line from the park. A plane crashed about a half mile from the airport Saturday at about 10:15 p.m., the National Transportation Safety Board has said. One pilot was on board when theInformation about the pilot’s status was still unknown Sunday evening. Local authorities, to which the NTSB referred comment about the pilot, did not return queries seeking comment.The forest fire service said in a 7:30 p.m.
