Stephen King's back catalog includes plenty of memorably great horror characters, but the author chose perfectly when he picked his favorite.

Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Stephen King’s favorite among his own horror characters might not be the one that viewers expect, but they are one of his greatest creations. King has created some legendary horror characters over the years.

The author's favorite is a character plucked from another one of the very best Stephen King books, which was fittingly turned into one of the best of all Stephen King movies. While the movie version did improve on its literary predecessor, both incarnations of this character’s story are fascinating psychological thrillers that dive into the mind of a monster while also providing the audience with a thrilling, tense story.

It is easy to see how King had fun writing Annie Wilkes. Some of the author’s most memorable creations, such as Bill Denbrough, the tortured hero of IT, saw the writer address his own career. Others, like Doctor Sleep’s antihero Danny, allowed King to ruminate on his history of addiction. However, with Annie Wilkes, King got to create a villain who wasn’t a reflection of his own life story.

Annie Wilkes Is The Only Stephen King Character An Actor Has Won An Oscar For Playing While Stephen King’s version of Annie Wilkes is pretty tough to empathize with, actress Kathy Bates managed to make the character a much more rounded, sympathetic figure in the movie adaptation of Misery. To date, Bates is the only actor to win an Oscar for playing a Stephen King character, thanks to her role in the book’s 1990 adaptation.
