Now, looking back, he’s glad they bought their Austin home when they did. “We joked when we moved that Austin was 80% of what we liked about the Bay Area at half the cost,” he said. “I don't know if that ‘half the price’ joke applies anymore.” Still, the couple have become rooted in their careers, and they won’t leave Austin anytime soon, even if the cost-of-living gap has narrowed. “If I was in the situation I was in seven years ago, the move may make sense, but not as much now.
