Gauthier spent time killing penalties last season and isn’t seen as a liability in his own zone. He can see plays develop, send accurate passes and use strong possession skills to draw attention away from teammates.
Eagerness to shoot is good, generally, but improving shot selection is something Gauthier will be asked to improve as his career progresses. He averaged seven shots a game this past season, which is a very large number that’s likely highest in the entire class.Players with Gauthier’s toolbox of talent are hard to find in the NHL, which is why they’re most often acquired through the draft rather than trades or free agency.
