The Academy believes it has a solution to the chronic bloat of its annual awards show. This year, the Oscars ceremony is scheduled to last four hours, but only three-quarters of it will be aired live.

Although the live telecast kicks off on ABC as usual at 8 p.m. ET, most attendees are expected to be in their seats at the Dolby Theatre an hour earlier. That’s when eight out of the 23 total awards will be handed out, including editing, sound and original musical score. Footage from these winning moments will be edited into highlights, which producers will drop into the live broadcast.
