ARLINGTON — When the Texans got the ball at the 4-yard line with just over five minutes left and a chance to seal the game, most people were likely wondering about running back Dameon Pierce.Eventually, the Texans lost 27-23, after failing to score any points on that drive, then letting the Cowboys take it 98 yards for a touchdown.

Pierce was out with an ankle injury he suffered in the previous drive. He got his ankle taped and came in briefly as a decoy. But after that, Texans coach Lovie Smith said Pierce was not able to go. “It affected quite a bit,” Smith said, when asked how not having Pierce affected their approach on the drive. “First-and-goal inside the five, the play would’ve been a little bit different, but nobody wants to hear about injuries. We’ve had quite a few.The Texans were already without top wide receivers Nico Collins and Brandin Cooks, who did not make the trip because of injuries to their foot and calf, respectively.

It’s unclear if Pierce will miss time, but the fact he couldn’t finish the game is a concern. He limped around the locker room after the game, and was not made available to the media by the Texans.
