Along with the SAG-AFTRA strike, the Writers Guild of America strike is also fighting for studios to limit the use of artificial intelligence in the writing process, so it was inevitable to point out the awkward timing of the release of the trailer of a movie about AI and how its use led to horrible consequences. Edwards agreed that the timing was odd , and even joked that he should have chosen 2023 as the time setting for The Creator instead of 2070 given the ongoing events.
