New Jersey gas prices have taken a rollercoaster ride while average national prices remain lower for regular gasoline.
While gas prices in New Jersey rode a rollercoaster over the past 30 days, the cost of diesel is higher and supplies lower, which could impact holiday shopping with higher delivery prices. The yellow $5.75 diesel price is seen at the Route 27 BP station in Iselin on Nov. 2.Filled your gas tank in the last two weeks? Many drivers may have grumbled to themselves about the rollercoaster ride pump prices have taken over the past 30 days.
Prices took a rollercoaster-type ride through October and into this month, said Robert Sinclair, AAA Northeast spokesman, who tracks regional gas prices. Traditionally,New Jersey’s average price bottomed out at $3.41 on Oct. 4 and then took a steady climb to a peak of $3.69 on Oct. 15, staying there until Oct. 20, he said. Prices dropped to $3.66 on Oct. 25 and went back up again to a $3.86 peak on Nov. 1, before dropping $3.85, where they held steady.
Another expert also blamed refining capacity and a problem with gasoline that didn’t meet specifications , said Patrick De Haan, petroleum expert for Gas Buddy. Refining capacity is not just a problem for New Jersey, but also for the entire Northeast. If it is any consolation, New England drivers are having it worse, he said.
