that, if women live together, their menstrual cycles will synchronise. Apparently, women can unconsciously communicate to each other via some form of pheromone , making them start ovulating at a similar time.
Many people also know that this isn’t true. The original research from the 70s has been superseded by that found no support for the idea of “menstrual synchrony”. And by the way, even after decades of searching, scientists have found little reason to believe that humans – unlike many other animals – eventhat women give off subtle signals – perhaps through their behaviour, appearance, or even the sound of their voice – when they’re at their most fertile.
Some researchers have suggested that the cortisol build-up in our systems is damaging, and can be caused by the stress of growing up in poverty. It is, to quote
