Winter Olympics 2022: Why do speed skaters wear glasses?
, as it states in its name, is one of the fastest events at the Olympics. And like their fellow athletes, they need gear to protect them against anything that may come their way.
As speed skating has been airing during the first half of these 2022 Winter Olympics, many have been wondering why these athletes need the protective eyewear if they are not actively battling snow?, speed skaters wear glasses or goggles to shield their eyes from the wind created by their skating at such a fast pace.
Because these athletes move so quickly through cold, dry air, speed skaters deal with conditions closer to that of skiers and snowboarders than of figure skaters, who move through the ice at a much lower speed. Skaters must also wear skin tight suits with aerodynamic hoods for air resistance — not wearing one could means grounds for disqualification from competition,
