And yet, in my opinion, the attack itself seems to have received far less coverage than other attacks, particularly those inspired by Islamist terrorism. Consider the difference in the coverage of the Parsons Green bombing in 2017 – enacted by someone with a Muslim name but who claimed to have been inspired by the Mission: Impossible films.

In fact, Prevent counter-terrorism policy has been condemned previously for unfairly targetting Muslims. There have been claims of children being referred to Prevent for wearing a ‘free Palestine’ badge, another questioned for wearing a t-shirt with a slogan that teachers mistook for Isis propaganda, and one was reportedly questioned under the strategy for saying the word ‘eco-terrorist’.

Some people say that Islamophobia doesn’t exist. Some say it’s something made up by woke-obsessed Muslims intent on shutting down all criticism of our religion. When we have a Home Secretary who describes the arrival of displaced people to the shores of Britain as an ‘’ – many of whom hail from Muslim countries such as Afghanistan and Syria – what message does that send?
