Inácio Miguel, the first Angolan player for Kaizer Chiefs, believes the PSL is the best league in Africa, attracting more players from his homeland.
Inácio Miguel arrives for a training session at Kaizer Chiefs Village in Naturena, south of Johannesburg, on 11 September 2024.However, of late there is a pattern of players from the Portuguese-speaking southern African country opting to play in the south tip of the continent. Inácio Miguel Ferreira dos Santos, the first Angola n to sign with Kaizer Chiefs, has given a glimpse of why there has been a sudden influx of players from his homeland.
The 28-year-old Angola international defender, simply known as Inácio Miguel, joined Chiefs on a three-year contract from Petro de Luanda a month ago. Speaking for the first time as a Chiefs player during a media day at the club’s headquarters in Naturena on Wednesday, Miguel said he and other Angolan-based players regard the PSL’s premier division as the best on the continent.“For us in Angola and other African countries, we see it as a very competitive league with a lot of teams fighting for the first place.”This is what motivates us to come here. We want to improve as well. It can help us to grow as footballers. It is the best league in Africa. We have good leagues in North Africa, but I would say this is the best. Miguel and fellow countryman Deivi Miguel Vieira, popularly known as Gilberto, are the latest Angolan players to join the PSL’s premier division. The two join midfielder Carlinhos (29), who joined Cape Town City last month from Petro de Luanda.Marques, who is now 38, had an impact at the Cape club before he returned to his homeland ahead of the start of the 2022/23 season. Some of the Angolan players who were once on the books of a PSL club include Armando Pedro (AmaZulu in the 1996/97 season) and Antonio Correia (SuperSport United in 2009/10).We live in a world where facts and fiction get blurred Who we choose to trust can have a profound impact on our lives.
