Darwin Quintero shredded the Whitecaps Saturday in Minnesota’s 3-2 win, but it’s not all doom and gloom for the VWFC.
Minnesota United FC’s five-foot assassin put on a master class with a goal and two assists in the Loons’ 3-2 win over the Caps and 27,837 fans at B.C. Place.
— J.J. Adams March 3, 2019“I think we created the trouble for ourselves. We’ll definitely get it right in video,” said Henry, who partnered with Erik Godoy between Jake Nerwinski and Cornelius. “We just have to be a little more on the same page here, and stick to our principles where I think we can get out of there way easier than we did. There’s room for improvement, that’s for sure,” said the Greenfield Park, Que., native.
The Whitecaps took a 1-0 lead off of Godoy’s sixth-minute goal, but coach Marc Dos Santos called it a “hidden moment” since his team was under the cosh for the first 20 minutes, holding just 33 per cent of the ball. The Caps did start trending upwards after, closing the gap to nearly 50 per cent by game’s end, but their ball dominance of just under 68 per cent between the 50th and 70th minutes was when their defence was ventilated by some bad giveaways.
— Farhan Devji March 3, 2019Midfielder Inbeom Hwang, in his first MLS game, started slowly passing-wise, but his work rate was on display for the full 90 minutes. His 57 passes was second only to Erice’s 101 on the Caps, and he led the team with three successful dribbles. But he was frequently alone going forward without the offensive support in midfield; it’s clear there is still some familiarity that needs to be brewed between himself and Felipe.
