Avatar: The Way of Water is one of the highest-grossing movies of all time, and with the film still succeeding well into 2023, many are wondering what movie will finally beat the Avatar sequel. The most likely candidate for this is The Super Mario Bros. Movie. Being a family film based on a massive IP, it seems like The Super Mario Bros. Movie is a surefire success, with it possibly being big enough to surpass Avatar: The Way of Water.
However, there are some other possibilities. Two huge movies coming out before The Super Mario Bros. Movie also have a chance to surpass Avatar: The Way of Water. The first of these is John Wick: Chapter 4. John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum made $327.3 million, which is enough to pass Avatar: The Way of Water despite it being an R-rated movie. Another contender is Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, which is a big-budget blockbuster.
