After Paul and his family take separate boats to the rig, they find it almost abandoned following an oil spill.

The cast and crew traveled to the island to shoot the entire movie, and they filmed on location in the Dominican Republic. However, it is unclear which towns the production of the science fiction thriller utilized as the background for a handful of the scenes.
The Horizon Water Tank is 60,500 square feet and was seemingly the perfect location for The Black Demon's intense ocean sequences. It was more practical to film on a studio lot than in the middle of the ocean, after all. Other movies that have utilized the water tank at Pinewood Dominican Republic Studios aside from The Black Demon were The Lost City, Old, and 47 Meters Down.
