The hearing takes place at the Old Bailey this Thursday

Anne Sacoolas, the US citizen who admitted to killing Harry Dunn by careless driving in West Northamptonshire in 2019, will be sentenced at the Old Bailey this Thursday, December 8. The public will be able to watch the proceedings unfurl for themselves after the judge allowed the sentencing hearing to be televised.

However, as the wife of a diplomat on the base, Sacoolas had diplomatic immunity asserted on her behalf by the US government. As a result of that legal protection, she was able to leave the UK 19 days later. The sentencing of the 45-year-old US diplomat was due to take place last Thursday, December 1, at the same court. However, court records show it was postponed on Tuesday, November 29, to Thursday, December 8. A spokesperson for the Old Bailey said the date was moved "at the request of the defence" after a broadcaster requested the proceedings be televised.

Sky has since confirmed that it will be broadcasting Sacoolas's sentencing live from the courtroom on Sky News and the Sky News YouTube channel. It also said proceedings would be televised on its dedicated Sky News Courts livestream channel. It is also not known whether Sacoolas will actually attend her sentencing in person. Following her admission, Mrs Justice Cheema-Grubb urged Sacoolas to come to the UK to be sentenced in person, but admitted she had no power to force her.
