Where to find warming shelters as freezing weather approaches

OurCalling, on Wednesday, Dec. 08, 2021 in Dallas. OurCalling is a nonprofit serving the homeless of Dallas.With freezing temperatures expected on Sunday and Monday mornings, local nonprofit OurCalling is planning to provide shelter for those in need.

OurCalling — a faith-based outreach center for homeless men and women — will open at 5 p.m. on Saturday to provide shelter and will offer dinner and a light breakfast. The organization, located at 1702 S. Cesar Chavez Blvd., Dallas, is asking for both monetary donations and warm jackets. The city of Dallas’ Office of Homeless Solutions will open inclement weather shelters on Saturday and Sunday at existing overnight shelter locations. Dallas officials are encouraging guests to seek shelter at Oak Lawn United Methodist Church and OurCalling if the existing shelters reach capacity.

Oak Lawn United Methodist Church is located at 3014 Oak Lawn Avenue and will accept guests from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Both OurCalling and Oak Lawn United Methodist will have onsite rapid response COVID-19 testing available.
