In a continued article series, we take a closer look at what Beast Mtawarira is up to now after retiring from international rugby in 2019.
There are very few Springboks who are more iconic, universally loved and world renowned than household name Tendai ‘Beast’ Mtawarira.
Mtawarira featured in 117 Tests for the Springboks , and remarkably started in almost all of them. During a career of incredible accomplishments, he first truly burst onto the test scene with an incredible display of scrumming power in a victorious series against the British & Irish Lions in 2009.he would eventually retire
Mtawarira was also an incredibly loyal servant to the Sharks, featuring only for that one local franchise throughout his career, ultimately racking up over 150 appearances for the coastal team across all competitions. As part of his successful transition into the business world, Mtawarira is a shareholder in a major security company, has his own international wine business, sits on the Sharks’ board and is involved in various other other commercial work.The Mtawarira 38-year-old is also involved in a number of philanthropic endeavours, having established The Beast Foundation, a community organisation that empowers young people through sports training, education, and skills development.
