A Whatcom County Sheriff's Office deputy is recovering after they were involved in a crash Tuesday morning.

The WCSO said the Washington State Patrol investigation found that the “civilian driver” involved in the crash was traveling eastbound on East Axton Road and drove through a stop sign. The deputy was driving southbound on Hannegan Road and struck the other vehicle.
The person who was driving the van at the time of the crash was cited for failure to stop at a controlled intersection and driving with no license and no insurance, the sheriff's office said.Sections of East Axton and Hannegan roads were closed for several hours during the crash investigation but have since reopened.
