Houston residents are heading into the second day without power after Hurricane Beryl struck, and they're getting crafty when it comes to tracking outages.
Limited information from CenterPoint Energy after Hurricane Beryl sent some Houston residents to an unlikely source for details on power outages: Whataburger . Hurricane Beryl landed near Matagorda on the Gulf Coast Monday morning as a Category 1, before heading to Houston and taking down power to more than 2 million customers, according to the Houston Chronicle .
According to the Chronicle, the company's outage tracker map crashed due to high demand and outages from the storm, so one social media user came up with a new method to follow outages. 'The Whataburger app works as a power outage tracker, handy since the electric company doesn't show a map,' wrote X user and podcast host Bryan Norton. A photo with the post shows the Whataburger app's map, which lists closed locations in grey and open locations in orange.
